JJ Abrams Celebrates First Day of Filming By Sharing STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Tease

What a happy day my Star Wars friends! Today is the first official filming day of Episode IX and director JJ Abrams has joined Twitter! Well, actually tweeted since he joined in 2017. Not only that, but we have a very blurry and lovely little tease thanks to Abrams. Before we tear the image apart in speculation though, Abrams shared an opinion.

While there is a lot of excitement and fun on the way with the new film, there is a touch of sadness there. All of us have felt the loss of Carrie Fisher and maybe none more than the cast and crew of the films. So Abrams acknowledged and shared his thoughts on moving on without Carrie there. But he also gave a shout out to two other directors as well.

Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for Rian Johnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part. #IX

Along with that tweet, he included a picture that gave us the most microscopic look at the film. And it’s time for us to tear it apart! Despite the blur we can see that Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Chewie (Joonas Suotamo) are sitting in the Millennium Falcon cockpit. Rey and Chewie are in the pilot seats and Finn is standing behind them sporting a new jacket. Actually, it looks like it’s a vest! VestGate, I’m calling it now. Another thing to point out is that there’s a dark line by Rey’s shirt, which may or may not be a side braid. No sign of porgs, though!

I really hope this film is better than the last! These films can only keep improving so I’m looking forward to seeing the finale in the new trilogy. It’s nice that the man who opened the trilogy will also be closing it as well. But as Abrams said, it’s truly bittersweet that Carrie isn’t here for it. However, her spirit lives on in these films and in all of us, so not all hope is lost. I also hope Abrams uses his Twitter to share more glimpses like this. I’m a glutton for punishment when it comes to Star Wars, I can’t help it! I’m looking forward to seeing what he does with the platform. Welcome to Twitter, JJ! And beware the trolls.
