We finally have the helmer of the sequel to Suicide Squad. According to Variety, Gavin O’Connor is set to both write and direct the sequel film. While we had heard rumors of other directors being approached, it appears O’Connor has become the man for the job.
WB has been doing a bit of scrambling since David Ayers would not be back for the sequel. We learned that even Mel Gibson was approached for the role of director. But instead it has gone to somewhat newcomer O’Connor. He had two films release last year – The Accountant staring Ben Affleck and Jane Got a Gun staring Natalie Portman. He is also known for the MMA film Warrior starring Tom Hardy.
I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t seen any of his work. He has an interesting action-movie background, so we can only assume that his ideas for the film will include some if not many action set pieces. And WB wouldn’t give the writing and directing pen to someone they didn’t have faith in. So we’ll see how it plays out!
Tell us what you think of O’Connor’s hiring! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC news. Suicide Squad 2 does not currently have a release date.
