Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi drama See You Yesterday follows Claudette ‘CJ’ Walker (Eden Duncan-Smith). She’s your average teenager who just so happens to be a science prodigy. When she isn’t home in Brooklyn and playfully taunting her overprotective big brother Calvin (Astro), CJ and fellow brainiac Sebastian (Dante Crichlow) spend their time working on their latest homemade invention: backpacks that lets the wearer travel back in time. “This is something Einstein spent his entire life trying to do,” notes Sebastian in the trailer.

In a tragic turn of events, an unarmed Calvin is shot and killed by the NYPD. CJ and Sebastian decide to use their unfinished invention to go back in time and save Calvin. And it actually works! Things don’t exactly go according to plan. In a very Groundhog Day-style, viewers can see the teens traveling back in time multiple times before determining they have a limited number of “jumps” or chances to go back to prevent the shooting.

Directed by Stefon Bristol and produced by Spike Lee, See You Yesterday’s full length trailer promises plenty of drama with a healthy dose of familial love, the all too familiar cultural divides, and second chances. Check out the trailer below!

High school best friends and science prodigies C.J. and Sebastian spend every spare minute working on their latest homemade invention: backpacks that enable time travel. But when C.J.’s older brother Calvin dies after an encounter with police officers, the young duo decide to put their unfinished tech to use in a desperate bid to save Calvin.

See You Yesterday will be available to stream on May 17th! Prior to its Netflix launch, the film will also premiere on May 3rd at the Tribeca Film Festival.
