Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite Free-2-Play games. October is here, so we’re playing our Fear-2-Play series, exploring free spooky games all month long leading up to Halloween. This week we speed-run Inverse, a psychological horror visual novel.
CONTENT WARNING: This game contains scenes of psychological horror and possibly disturbing depictions of mental illness.
Inversed
Inversed is a short, interactive visual novel set in the mid-19th Century, in which a poet fights against time while writing the most important work of her life. Poetry is the answer, but what is the question?

The Basics
Let’s get down to the basics of Inversed. This game was made for the O2A2 VN Jam 2024, a micro Visual Novel jam with strict asset limitations and a 1000-word limit. The restricted word list requires careful weaving and results in unexpected some twists.
Inversed isn’t a visual novel in the typical sense. You’ll select choices to craft poetry rather than navigating dialogue choices in a conversation or event decision. Balance your limited words to reveal the truth in a chilling, creative goth poetry slam.

Why Should I Play?
So why should you play Inversed by creator Tymedust Games? This is the perfect game to squeeze into a busy week before Halloween. Inversed only takes 15-20 minutes to play so you can fit it into your schedule between setting up a scary movie marathon and getting ready for a haunted house.
This is a psychological horror which means atmosphere is everything. The limited color/black-shaded artwork and poignant music soundtrack complement each other to set the heartbreaking, mind-bending tale. The game is also fully voice-acted which is a rare treat in the genre.
Ready to bear your soul for the reader? You can download Inversed for free on Steam here.
