The debate continues between Louis and Lestat (Sam Reid) about what a vampire should be. Lestat is still trying to make Louis see that he is a killer. Louis is fine with only killing animals. He thinks they should be selective and only kill the worst humans. Lestat argues that all humans are capable of being despicable. Louis asks Lestat to walk through the streets and find the worst of the worst. They find a drunk man who steals from the unfortunate. Lestat moves quickly and disables the man so Louis can feed. Louis opts for a cat instead. He says he doesn’t want to kill humans anymore.

The two go to Louis’ club where a new singer is performing. After she leaves the stage, Lestat takes out his frustration with Louis on the piano player. He insults the regular piano player and then plays a new tune for the crowd. Turns out the regular piano player and his band were planning on leaving Louis’ club for a higher paying gig in Chicago. And they weren’t going to tell him. That tune would become known as the Wolverine Blues.

Daniel (Eric Bogosian) doesn’t believe him. He says Louis keeps changing the story. He even plays past recordings to prove his point. In 1973, Louis was angry and spoke harshly of Lestat. In 2022, he talks as if Lestat was his soulmate. Daniel says this is a classic abuser-victim relationship, where Louis knows he was hurt, but he still loves his abuser. Louis doesn’t consider himself a victim.

Louis points out that even Daniel doesn’t remember his own story well. Daniel called it the odyssey of recollection. Louis admits this interview is part performance. It’s been half a century. He asks Daniel to allow him his own odyssey. Daniel throws away the tapes from 1973 and the recordings on his laptop. Louis one ups him by setting the tapes on fire. They continue the interview.

Lestat became very good friends with the new singer, Antoinette Brown (Maura Grace Athari). The two would have afterparties and the last person to leave would be Lestat’s dinner. Meanwhile Louis fed on rats and cats. His energy and libido decreased. He allowed Lestat to indulge in everything he desired, including Antoinette. But Lestat did not kill Antoinette because she is talented. This makes Louis wonder if he was enough for Lestat and that amuses him. Lestat finds Louis’ jealousy very cute. He confirms that they have an open relationship. Louis can be with whoever he wants as long as he goes home to Lestat.

The war began and more servicemen roamed the streets of New Orleans. However, the powers that be created new city ordinances to make sure that the money got into the right hands. Louis tells his ‘friends’ about the troubles he’s having and how he’s gotten around those ordinances. Unfortunately, those friends are also on the city council making the ordinances. They blame the President of the United States for Louis’ troubles.

An old friend of Louis’ visits. His name is Jonah (Thomas Antony Olajide) stops by the brothel to catch up with Louis. Lestat watches them closely, so Louis decides to take Jonah for a ride. They drive out to the woods and get reacquainted. Turns out that Louis and Jonah were more than friends.

Later that night, Louis immediately explains who Jonah is and was to him. Lestat mentions that he is no longer seeing Antoinette. They get ready for bed and Louis notices that Lestat’s boots were muddy. Daniel questions Louis’ memory of that night to explain the mud, but Louis drops it. He mentions that he met Jonah again a decade later assuming that Daniel thinks Lestat killed Jonah.

The next night Louis stopped by Grace’s (Kalyne Coleman) house for the twins’ birthday. Florence (Rae Dawn Chong) stops him and tells him to come around during the day. He’s not welcome anymore because the devil walks at night. Louis gets angry and Grace’s husband Levi (Christian Robinson) meets him at the door. Levi tries to calm Louis down as Florence yells at him that the girls are scared of Louis. Louis pushes past Levi and breaks down the door, further scaring Grace and the twins. Grace tells Louis to leave.

When Louis gets home, Lestat is having a party with a bunch of servicemen. Lestat says he brought the men to their home because the city wants to shut down the brothel. Louis tells Lestat to make the soldiers leave. Lestat uses his mind to control the men and his ears begin to bleed.

Lestat lets Louis know that he watched him with Jonah and he’s jealous. Louis had a past relationship with Jonah, unlike Lestat and Antoinette. Lestat had no feelings for her. He yells at Louis not for have sex with Jonah but for feeding on animals afterward. This is not the life he wanted for Louis. Louis says he has no life because Lestat took it. He’s lost everything.

Louis goes to Fenwick Alderman (Joe DiMaggio) and Thomas Anderson (Chris Stack) about the closure. They blame the city council, but Louis hears their thoughts. They honestly think Louis is nothing but a dumb, black pimp. Louis questions if they knew they sold him the business because they knew they were going to steal it back. The Alderman offers to buy the property at a much lower rate than he bought it from Thomas.

This made Louis question if his mother was right. Is he from the devil? Is his very nature that of the devil? The question overwhelmed him. Louis tried to fight back, but the Alderman and the city council fought dirtier. They publicly spoke out against Louis and his business forcing Louis to close his doors. All the while, Louis neglected his hunger.

Louis went to the Alderman’s home and confronted him. The Alderman tries to put Louis in his place. He’s black, gay and flying too close to the sun. He basically tells Louis to give up because he can’t win. Louis can hear his heartbeat and knows the man is scared. The Alderman picks up a gun and shoots Louis two times in the chest. While he tries to reload, Louis attacks him. He cuts the Alderman’s ear off, slashes his face and then pulls out his heart. Louis reveals he’s a vampire before killing the Alderman.

The next morning, the public finds the Alderman’s body on the gates of the city hall with a sign that says “whites only.” That prompts the white owners to burn down the black owned business. Lestat is actually proud of Louis for killing him the way he did. He wonders if Louis enjoyed it and thinks it’s a turning point for Louis. Louis says he killed him for his people and what the white owners are doing to them. And he takes responsibility for the fires. But he and Lestat are different and always will be. Lestat likes to kill for pleasure. Louis killed as a protest. And that’s why they will never work. That’s why Lestat will always be alone.

Louis leaves and tries to help his people as the run away from the terror. The white owners started burning houses. Louis heard a girl scream for help from one of the houses. He ran in and saved a young girl from the fire. It was his light, his redemption … his Claudia (Bailey Bass).
