Deadline shared exclusive casting news yesterday surrounding an upcoming Marvel and Disney Plus series. Canadian actress Iman Vellani is taking on the role of the young superhero in Ms. Marvel. The series was announced during D23 in 2019 by Kevin Feige alongside other upcoming series. Iman will play Marvel’s first Muslim superhero on not only the small screen, but eventually on the big screen as well. Kamala Khan has also found her way to gaming screens this year as well in Marvel’s Avengers.

Ms. Marvel will focus on Kamala Khan, an Pakistani-American teen from New Jersey, who obtains superhero powers after coming into contact with Terrigen gas. She chooses to use her powers for good after meeting her favorite superhero, Captain Marvel. The creators’ goal is to stay true not only to the story itself, but to casting the right people for the right roles. Iman’s casting is the next step in truly helping to diversify the Marvel universe.

We are beyond happy to welcome Iman and can’t wait to see her when the series goes live! We have high hopes for her as Kamala Khan! Marvel and Disney Plus also shared that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon as directors for Ms. Marvel. No date has been set for the series release.
