Luther fans, you can breathe. According to Variety, BBC and BBC America have ordered a 5th season of the show. And to top it all off, star Idris Elba will in fact be returning. High fives all around!
The future of Luther has been unknown. Now with creator Neil Cross back on board, the production is set to go underway early next year. The last time we saw John Luther was back in December of 2015 in a two-part fourth season. But they have more in store for the character this time around. They’ve ordered a 4-parter. Cross spoke excitedly about returning to Luthor’s world.
Because we love John and wonder what he’s up to. In the end, we picked up the phone to some old friends and asked if they’d like to find out what happens next. It turns out, they would. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to find out what happens next.

Intriguing! We’re not sure who those ‘friends’ are but the possibilities are open and exciting. Elba also commented on returning.
