Legendary actor of stage and screen Ian Holm has passed away at the age of 88. From Shakespeare to fantasy to science fiction, Holm was truly as master of his craft.

The English actor was born in 1931. He went on to study at the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts after which he embarked on a career spanning six decades. During his career, Holm was nominated for an Academy Award and won many awards including BAFTAs, a Tony and a SAG Award. 

In genre film, he made an indelible mark. His characters in science fiction and fantasy films are unforgettable and will always be revered and held dear by fans. His most famous characters in genre include antagonist android Ash in Alien, Napoleon in Time Bandits, Mr. Kurtzman in Brazil, and Cornelius in The Fifth Element. But his most beloved character just may be his portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit Trilogy. 

Ian Holm passed away from Parkinson’s Disease Friday, June 19th at the age of 88. We wish he could have lived to one hundred and eleven.
