Hold on to your hook hands, horror fans, because we’re about to get another requel. If you are unfamiliar with the term, a “requel” is when a series of films gets a new movie that is part reboot and part sequel. With the popularity of the Halloween, Scream and Texas Chainsaw reboots still fresh in fans’ minds; moviemakers are turning to another cult classic horror film, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

According to an exclusive from Deadline, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct the new sequel. Additionally, franchise alums Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are in talks to return to Southport and possibly face the Hook-Handed Man. Allegedly, Leah McKendrick will write the script.

In the original film, a group of teenagers became bound together after a terrible accident. Years later, they find themselves back together to face their past in the form of the Hook-Handed Man. They must fight to survive and face what happened that fateful summer.

Not only did the slasher film become part of a trilogy, but it also spawned a series on Prime Video.

Details of the plot for this requel are not yet known. However, Deadline‘s report states that while cast alums are set to return, there will also be a new generation of cast members, much like in the Scream reboot.
