Ashley Moore (Riley) and Ezekiel Goodman (Dylan) in I Know What You Did Last Summer.

We are just days away from the release and rebirth of one of horror’s most iconic franchises – I Know What You Did Last Summer. In this new series from Amazon Prime, Sony Pictures Television and showrunner Sara Goodman, a group of teenagers finds themselves bound together by a dark secret and stalked by a brutal killer. What could be more terrifying? I recently got the chance to chat with Ashley Moore and Ezekiel Goodman, who portray Riley and Dyan in the series. They shared what they love about each other and what it was like playing two close friends who both share a dark secret.

The first four episodes of I Know What You Did Last Summer drops on Amazon Prime on October 15, 2021.

This interview has been condensed for clarity.

Ashley Moore and Ezekiel Goodman Interview

Julia Roth: It’s great to meet you guys! How are you guys?

Ashley Moore: Good, how are you doing?

Ezekiel Goodman: Good, good.

JR: I’m doing well. Thanks for chatting with me! I’ve gotten the chance to see the first four episodes of I Know What You Did Last Summer and it’s fantastic. I really loved it. Now Ashley, did you know what role you were auditioning for? Was there anyone you could prepare for it, or did you go in blind?

AM: No, I knew the role I was auditioning for and the breakdown. It was actually really exciting for me. From the moment I read it, I loved Riley. I couldn’t wait to audition and get in the room for that.

JR: What is your favorite part of her character?

AM: She’s really badass. She does not care about what other people think. She’s tough, just says what’s on her mind and is very straightforward. The way she was brought up has made her so much strong than most. I really love those things about her.

JR: She is fantastic and you really bring her to life in I Know What You Did Last Summer and make us want to love and root for her. Ezekiel, your character Dylan has a close relationship with Riley in the series. Were you and Ashley really close on set and how was it working together for the first time?

EG: Ashley, I can’t speak for her, but I feel really close with her. Not only did we do a lot of work together to build the backstory and our characters’ friendship and relationship, but for both of us and this being our first series, we really relied on each other. I called her just to say, ‘hey, we’re in this together!’ We got pretty close.

AM: Yeah, it was a lot of fun working with each other.

JR: You said that this is both of your first series. How does it feel to know that the series you are creating was a major feature film at some point? I remember when I Know What You Did Last Summer was announced and being really excited because I loved the original film. But how does it feel to be filling the shoes of some pretty iconic actors and actresses?

EG: There was definitely added pressure in giving fans something that they want to see and at the same time, we wanted to honor a new story and new characters and bring our whole selves to that project. I hope we did justice to both of those endeavors.

JR: It’s terrific. I will admit I was a little skeptical at first and by the time I finished watching the first episode of I Know What You Did Last Summer, I knew just how good this is. The updates and changes to bring it into this time work great and the new story works so well to blend the old with the new.

EG: Aw, that’s so nice.

JR: Did you guys know the twists and turns? Or was it something you learned as you were filming?

AM: No, we got the scripts ahead of time and we were able to look. But reading it all through, I was just like, ‘what?! This is crazy!’ It was great.

EG: Well, I will say we got the first six. And then a lot happens in the last two episodes we didn’t know right away. But there are definitely twists.

AM: It’s so different, but you are going to love it.

EG: Also, I just want to say that as a fan, your reaction is exactly what we want to hear!

AM: It makes me so happy!

EG: Your skepticism turning into appreciation is just a glorious gift. Thank you!

JR: You’re very welcome! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me and I can’t wait to see how I Know What You Did Last Summer ends!

AM and EG: Thank you! We hope you continue to love it!
