Unless you have been living under a rock, chances are you have at least heard of How I Met Your Mother. The series kicked off in 2002 and followed Ted (Josh Radnor/Bob Saget) as he told his children how he eventually met and fell in love with their mother. It is told through flashbacks as Ted and his friends attempt to survive life, love and surviving New York City. The series ended in 2014 when we finally learned who Ted’s wife really was. And Hulu is bringing all of the fun and excitement back to us in the first trailer for their upcoming series, How I Met Your Father.
The series has a similar format to the original as an older Sophie (Kim Catrall) tells her child (or children) how she met their father. From what we see in the trailer, the story is told through flashbacks to Sophie’s younger years, where she is portrayed by Hillary Duff. The story kicks off in 2022 New York City, as Sophie and her friends figure out who they are and what they want from their lives. How I Met Your Father brings itself into the current age as Sophie shares just how hard it is to date when you have been on 87 Tinder dates in the last year.

The trailer for How I Met Your Father goes on to introduce us to Sophie’s group of friends and the struggles we can expect to see throughout the series. Alongside Catrall and Duff, the series stars Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma, Josh Peck, Ashley Reyes and Daniel Augustin. I was always a fan of the original series, but I found quite a lot of fault with the lack of diversity within How I Met Your Mother. With this casting and what we see from the trailer, I am hoping that the new series from Hulu will not fall into the same issue.
One big difference that TVLine spotted was that the trailer introduces a view of Catrall as Sophie. In the original series, Saget was only even known by his voice-over. We also don’t get the chance to see who she is talking to. This could be the way the trailer was cut or as a way not to give away any significant descriptors of who their father might be. We might even see them in the first episode and find out that Sophie and their father adopted! Who knows! But, from everything we have seen, we are in for one legendary journey.
How I Met Your Father series premiere will kick off on Hulu on January 18, 2022. We’ve dropped the trailer and poster art down below for your enjoyment! What do you think of the new series? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
