HBO unveiled the epic and fiery official teaser trailer for Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon! Folks, “epic” is the understatement of the century.
Based on George R.R. Martin‘s Fire & Blood, the new series takes place 200 years before the events of its predecessor, illustrating the saga of House Targaryen. It’ll also chronicle the Targaryen civil war, “The Dance of the Dragons,” a bloody battle of succession within the family.

In the teaser, we see dragons aplenty, political intrigue, fighting and verbal backstabbing, all set to the stunning backdrop of an older Westeros with a haunting new version of the Targaryen theme song.
In addition to the trailer, we have nine character posters featuring the core cast in all their crimson splendor. Each one poses with the House Targaryen sigil, a three-headed dragon, emblazoned behind them. The words “Fire and Blood” are scrawled in front of them.
My excitement currently sits at an 11 on a scale of one to 10. Based on the source material and who’s involved, I have complete faith HBO will do right by us this time. As long as Those Who Shall Not Be Named are nowhere near House of the Dragon, I’m right as rain.
The 10-episode fantasy series stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Hand of the King.
House of the Dragon premieres on Sunday, August 21, on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. Take a gander at the posters and trailer below!
