Fire and blood will reign — Rhaenyra Targaryen will make sure of that. HBO and WarnerMedia unveiled a slew of new photos for the highly anticipated Season 1 finale of House of the Dragon. Aptly titled “The Black Queen,” episode 10 shines a light on Dragonstone, where Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), her husband Daemon (Matt Smith) and their family will undoubtedly learn the news of Viserys’s passing and Aegon II’s crowning.
Last week’s episode was all about Team Green, as Alicent (Olivia Cooke), Otto (Rhys Ifans) and the green council sought to secure Aegon’s (Tom Glynn-Carney) ascension to the Iron Throne after Viserys died. Rhaenys (Eve Best), who was still in the Red Keep when the green takeover occurred, was given an ultimatum via Alicent: support Aegon as the new king or become an enemy of the crown.

Rhaenys slipped out of the Red Keep with the assistance of Ser Erryk Cargyll (Elliott Tittensor). Erryk defected from the greens to Team Black. After Aegon’s coronation, Rhaenys fulfilled Helaena’s (Phia Saban) prophecy regarding “the beast beneath the boards” by rising out of the ground of the Dragonpit on the back of Meleys the Red Queen. Rhaenys looked as if she might order Meleys to burn the greens standing on the dais, but she hesitated when Alicent threw herself in front of Aegon. Then, Rhaenys departed for Dragonstone.
In the seven new photos, we see Rhaenyra standing next to the Painted Table, presumably brainstorming how she’ll rally the realm to her cause. Additionally, we see Rhaenys clad in her red and gold armor and Erryk kneeling while presenting Viserys’s (formerly worn by Old King Jaehaerys) crown to Daemon. Aw, he’ll probably place it on Rhaenyra’s head!
We glimpse some of Rhaenyra’s black council, including Ser Lorent Marbrand (Max Wrottesley), Maester Gerardys (Phil Daniels), and, presumably, Lord Bartimos Celtigar (Nicholas Jones). I couldn’t find who Jones was playing, but I’m willing to bet that’s a member of House Celtigar, an ancient house with Valyrian roots.
Meanwhile, the betrothed kids — Baela (Bethany Antonia) and Jacaerys (Harry Collett), Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) and Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) — look ready for battle. There’s also a sweet image of Rhaenyra cupping her son Luke’s face. As someone who’s read Fire & Blood, this worries me.
