All Must Choose
House of the Dragon asks which side you are on — Team Black or Team Green? HBO unveiled two fiery trailers for each respective team, showcased through the perspective of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) and Aegon Targaryen’s (Tom Glynn-Carney) camps. Quite frankly, it’s a brilliant marketing move.
Here’s a brief description of HBO’s first-ever “dueling” trailers event:
“Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story. For global audiences, ‘All Must Choose’ their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.”

Where Season 1 Left Off
If you recall, Season 1 planted the seeds for the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of the Dragons. After King Viserys I Targaryen’s (Paddy Considine) death, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and her father, Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), assembled the Green Council to orchestrate a plan to put Aegon on the throne. This transpires after Alicent misinterprets Viserys’ words regarding Aegon’s ascension as the next ruler of Westeros.
Meanwhile, Rhaenyra is crowned queen on Dragonstone, the Targaryen’s ancestral seat, with her husband, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), by her side. The Season 1 finale saw the tragic death of Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault), after he fought Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) in the skies above Shipbreaker Bay. Naturally, Rhaenyra swore vengeance, kickstarting the inevitable Dance.
