The Dance of the Dragons

The Targaryen civil war is here. After the events of the Season 1 finale, which saw Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his dragon Vhagar inadvertently kill Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault), House of the Dragon Season 2 promises balls-to-the-wall bloodshed.

HBO unveiled the official Season 2 trailer. In it, we see the effects of the early stages of war already wearing down the Greens and the Blacks. The newly crowned Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) reels after losing her son and questions if either side will remain standing when the war ends.

Meanwhile, Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) catapults in the other direction, from a prince reluctant to sit the Iron Throne to a king thirsting for violence.

Raise Your Banners

Additionally, we see both sides raise their banners as they amass allies. Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka the Sea Snake (Steve Toussaint), promises the might of the Velaryon fleet for the Blacks. Of course, they also have more dragons.

Other memorable moments in the trailer include Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) telling Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) they must go to King’s Landing. Aemond discloses his doubts to Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) about Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke) love for Rhaenyra, which clouds her judgment. Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), the Hand of the King, works hard to map out the Greens’ battle strategies. Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) reveals there’s more than one way to win a war.
