If you’re a fan of horror, you’ll be glad to know that a number of new movies are coming in 2021. From The Conjuring 3 to Dark Harvest, there are many reasons to get excited. Their spine-tingling themes continue to be a perfect fit for the world’s fascination with the supernatural. Find out more about these productions and how they enhance horror in entertainment
Anticipated Horror Movies
The Conjuring 3: The Devil Make Me Do It will have Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren. James Wan is producing the newest vision alongside Peter Safran, while Michael Chaves is in the director’s seat.
All we know for sure about the plot is that it’s based on one of the real couple’s most notorious files, involving demonic possession that even made it to trial. As per Flickering Myth’s report of the actual events that took place in 1980 and 1981, the movie focuses on a boy struggling with evil spirits after moving into a new home with his family.
Paranormal Activity 7 is in the works too, courtesy of Blumhouse. Christopher Landon will be returning to help develop the next installment of the massive horror franchise, but neither as screenwriter or director. Unfortunately, other than a rumored change in direction, no more details are available in terms of plot or cast. But the project’s existence definitely sent ripples through the horror community.
Another exciting release for 2021 is MGM’s cinematic adaptation of Norman Partridge’s novel, Dark Harvest. Michael Gilio’s screenplay should follow the original plot in some way, which is set on Halloween 1963 and pits teenagers in one more daring clash with October Boy. This year, however, the truth about the supernatural horror comes to light. David Slade is directing.
A Rich Horror Culture
Thanks to the cinematic universes of The Conjuring, Paranormal Activity, Insidious, IT and so on, our choices for Halloween costumes have happily grown over the years. Their scary characters joined a never-ending fascination for the dark and spooky unknown, which the entertainment industry is more than happy to keep feeding.
Apart from filmmakers’ other contributions such as The Witch, Hereditary and The Babadook, video games are the next best medium for scary stories. Layers of Fear and its sequel by Bloober Team, for example, rank very highly for their immersive Gothic first-person mysteries. Similar great options include Amnesia: Rebirth and Devotion.
But the fact of the matter is that the simplest supernatural theme turns heads in all kinds of entertainment. Popular among boardgame enthusiasts are creations like Mysterium and Escape the Dark Castle. In both, players get to imagine themselves in bizarre situations and play out their plots.
The same allure even exists in gambling entertainment. Some popular choices listed among LeoVegas mobile casino games are Lucky Halloween’s jackpot reel and the Ghost Glyph grid slot experience. Both titles combine beloved spooky themes with superior gaming technology to draw players into their chilling but fun atmospheres.
Even without top franchises releasing movie after movie, the world of horror would keep growing. But, as higher-caliber productions, The Conjuring 3 and Paranormal Activity 7 are sure to create more milestones in the supernatural genre. Dark Harvest also promises to be a memorable treat for Halloween. In the world of fright-loving geeks, every new scare and monster are welcome.
