One of 2021’s potential biggest games is officially delayed. This comes from an announcement on the Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon. The tweet states, “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us, so we are giving the game the time it needs.”

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe. Developer Avalanche originally announced the game with an impressive trailer at the September 2020 PS5 event. At that time, it didn’t have a specific date set aside from a 2021 release.

Fans have experienced plenty of other Harry Potter video games, but Hogwarts Legacy should be the most immersive yet. The game’s first trailer shows off character customization, magic lessons, the Sorting Hat ceremony, Quidditch games and more. Players will experience a Hogwarts they’ve never seen before in this 1800s setting, far from the time of the original book series or the more recent Fantastic Beasts movies.

Fans responded positively to Wednesday’s Twitter announcement. Some worry that rushing the game’s development could lead to many of the same issues as Cyberpunk 2077, a much-anticipated 2020 release that ultimately needed more time and work before public availability. As a result, most appear hopeful that this delay promises a polished, immersive and complete game when the time comes.

There’s currently no specific release date aside from 2022, but Hogwarts Legacy will be available for the PlayStation5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
