Hocus Pocus is a new-age classic. For some of us, you can’t think of Halloween without thinking of the Sanderson sisters. But with news from Deadline, we’ve learned that the Hollywood machine is trying to revamp a classic. Apparently, the Disney Channel is in early development on re-making the film.

According to the article, a rebooted TV film is in the works, looking for a re-imaging. Scarlett Lacey (The Royals) is currently set to write with the original producer, David Kirschner, on board to executive produce. The original director and writers are currently not apart of the project. That being said, I’m glad that someone from the original film is on board. But it’s still disappointing that it’s being remade in the first place. Disney seems to be taking all of their films are remaking them for the more modern day.

In 1993, Halloween was never the same after Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy stormed our screens. So for them to make a new one, it’s upsetting. On the other hand, the film is pretty dated. While the witches are timeless, some of the slang and definitely the fashion scream 90s. So, I suppose it could benefit from a touch up. However, I stand firm that it doesn’t need to be remade. I love it in spite of it’s dated look, it’s the characters, especially the sisters, that make the movie great. So it’s hard to imagine anyone but them being the Sanderson sisters. Can we just get a Hocus Pocus 2 instead?! We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
