HIGHLANDER Reboot Has Its Script

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! Script, that is. The Highlander reboot, which has been in the works in one form or another for nearly a decade, is another step closer to happening. According to Deadline, writer Ryan Condler (Colony) just handed a script to Lionsgate.  In addition, the film has already locked down a director, John Wick’s Chad Stahelski. This is truly exciting news. Between Condler’s experience with genre and Stahelski’s John Wick chops, this could be a very exciting film. This is a reboot to definitely get behind.

Lionsgate is definitely pumped about the project.  Patrick Wachsberger of Lionsgate told Deadline “We’ve finally got a screenplay we’re happy with. We have set up the story so it has sequel potential.” So, perhaps a trilogy?

Highlander has been on the big screen and small screen. In the world of Highlander, there are number of Immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. When this happens, there is ‘The Quickening’ in which the dead Immortal releases a powerful energy burst that is gained by the victor.  When there is only one Immortal left, that Immortal gains special abilities that can be used for nefarious purposes. IT’S SO EXCITING!

Pre-production is set to begin in October with a 2019 release date. No word on casting favorites as of yet or whether it will be a take on Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod or Adrian Paul’s Duncan MacLeod. Either way, the new MacLeod will have big Immortal shoes to fill. For now enjoy Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod gaining The Prize set to Queen’s theme song for the film
