If lovin’ the prospect of Coming 2 America is wrong, we don’t want to be right. Amazon released a slew of first look stills from the highly anticipated sequel on Thursday, and we’ve got them here! After almost 33 years, it’ll be nice to see Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) together again on our screens.
The original film, Coming to America, starred Murphy and Hall. It followed Prince Akeem, a pampered royal from Zamunda who travels to America for one purpose — to find a wife. He proceeds to go undercover to accomplish his objective. Obviously, good ol’ fashioned hijinks and signature Murphy comedic antics ensue. Besides Murphy and Hall; Shari Headley, Paul Bates, John Amos, Garcelle Beauvais and James Earl Jones are all reprising their roles. Newcomers to Coming 2 America include Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, KiKi Layne, Rick Ross and Wesley Snipes.
Now, in the sequel, Akeem learns he has a long-lost son named Lavelle (Fowler) in America as he himself prepares to become king. He decides to make the trek back to the U.S. to meet the heir to the throne of Zamunda. Craig Brewer was at the helm for this flick while Kenya Barris and David Sheffield penned the script.

Entertainment Weekly sat down with Brewer, who revealed where we left off with Akeem in the first iteration.
It’s 30 years later and Prince Akeem is preparing for life as a king. Without me giving away too much, there’s trouble on the horizon with a neighboring country because of something Akeem did or did not do in the first movie. And he finds out that he has a son in America that he did not know he had. He has three daughters with Lisa (Headley) and now there’s this blended family that is happening.
Prince Akeem now needs to be a king and have children of his own and find out how to rule his kingdom with these old laws. He’s got some problems he’s got to figure out and he’s got a little bit more depth in this particular one. Not to take away from the original, because we never will.
I, for one, am so excited to revisit these characters. At least it’s a sequel and not a reboot. I’ve no doubt we’ll be laughing our asses off and feeling oodles of nostalgia for a time gone by.
