It seems like forever that we were introduced to the idea of a live action The Witcher series for Netflix. Last year we learned Lauren S. Hissrich would be serving as the executive producer for the show along with Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström helping to direct different episodes. Early this morning we were given the next big news, Henry Cavill will be staring as main character Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill broke the news himself this morning on his Instagram with his newly changed Netflix profile name.

The Witcher series is based off the best selling fantasy book series and video game franchise of the same name. It follows Geralt as he hunts deadly monsters and tries to find his place in the world. His whole life is shifted when he has a chance encounter with a powerful sorcerer and mysterious princess. Now the group of three must work together to learn how to navigate this increasingly dangerous world.

Henry Cavill is most recently known for his roles in Mission Impossible 6: Fallout, Man of SteelBatman vs Superman, and Justice League. However those who are fans of his know that back in 2010 he played the role of Charles Brandon on Showtime’s period piece, The Tudors. Many fans of the upcoming show are excited with the idea, while others do have their doubts. I really hope that this role is something he can make his own and truly shine. Hissrich even took to her Twitter this morning as well to show her support in his casting.

The Witcher doesn’t have series release date however it looks to be coming along quite well. Let’s hope that we will be able to see it release sometime in the next year or so. Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Witcher news as it comes out.
