There can be only one. And guys, it could be Henry Cavill. Deadline dropped some exclusive news today for the upcoming Lionsgate reboot of Highlander. Their source has told them that Cavill is in talks with the studio to take on one of the lead roles. Lionsgate has brought on Chad Stahelski to helm the reboot alongside producers Neal H. Moritz and Josh Davis.

The original Highlander was released in 1986 starring Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and the late Sean Connery. They were immortal beings who hunted down one another to collect more power in a never-ending battle to be the only one. It was so popular; the franchise made four more films and three television series, one of which aired on USA starring Adrian Paul.

Lionsgate has titled this a reboot, but no one is sure exactly what story this will tell. They could redo the 1986 film and place Cavill in Lambert’s role, or they could create an entirely new character for him. These days anything is possible. Cavill has proven that he knows his way around a sword and can rock long hair (just watch Netflix’s The Witcher and try and prove me wrong) so I am game for him to take on a role in the film.

I am just a tad bit nervous that he might have a bit too much on his plate. We are still waiting on the second season of The Witcher, which I am hopeful will be renewed for a third season. Then he needs to head off and film Enola Holmes 2 alongside Millie Bobby Brown. But then again, he has proven that he can do multiple projects at a time. He really must be Superman.

Honestly, Highlander feels like it is still in its early stages. We got the script in 2018 and then things went quiet again. We might not even get to finally see it until two or three years down the road. So there is time to free up Cavill’s schedule and get some more supporting cast. So, I am just going to keep putting positive Cavill-Highlander vibes out into the universe and belt Queen‘s “Who Wants to Live Forever” at the top of my lungs.
