Less than two months into 2020 and we already have a good contender for strangest movie of the year, Horse Girl

Alison Brie is gracing us with her presence on Netflix once again, not just as a leading lady but also a screenwriter for Jeff Baena’s Horse Girl. The full length trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller dropped on Tuesday. It depicts Brie playing Sarah, an introverted craft store employee with a passion for horse training and watching supernatural true crime shows every night.

Just as Sarah begins to come out of her shell she begins to experience a strange set of instances that seem to mirror her late grandmother’s mental breakdown. Lack of sleep, blacking out then waking up in random places and having hallucinations. There’s even talk of alien abductions thrown in for good measure. The trailer leaves a lot of room for interpretation and will certainly have the audience wonder what the heck is going on. Is she having a breakdown? Is she being tested by aliens? Or is one of her few friends merely screwing with her somehow? I don’t know. I just know I’m excited for it.

Along with Brie, Horse Girl also stars Debby Ryan, John Reynolds, Molly Shannon, John Ortiz, Paul Reiser and Jay Duplass. Check out the bizarre trailer below!

Horse Girl: Sarah, a socially isolated arts and crafts store employee, finds herself more content in the company of horses and supernatural crime shows than people. But when a series of strangely surreal dreams upend the simplicity of her waking life, Sarah struggles to distinguish her visions from reality.

Horse Girl debuts on Netflix on February 7th!
