HBO’s new psychological thriller The Undoing is coming up and stars the network’s latest muse Nicole Kidman. Over the last few years Kidman has made a foray into television and we are all the better for it. Of course there’s the very successful Big Little Lies but she also had a wonderful turn in the second season of Top of the Lake.
The show’s premiere has been pushed back to fall due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is unfortunate because streaming shows are exactly what we need right now. Perhaps with the star power in The Undoing, HBO doesn’t want to lose their red carpet premiere and press junkets.
In The Undoing, Kidman plays Grace Fraser, a rich, successful New York therapist. Her husband Jonathan is played by Hugh Grant. Their son, Noah Jupe (Honey Boy) attends an elite private school in New York City. Donald Sutherland plays Grace’s father and chess mate, Franklin Reinhardt. That’s quite a cast.
The series is based on the book You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz and brought to television by writer, producer David E. Kelley and director Susanne Bier. The Undoing also stars Edgar Ramirez, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Matilda De Angelis, Lily Rabe, and Noma Dumezweni.
Check out the synopsis and the two teasers below.
The Undoing follows “Grace Fraser, who is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. She’s a successful therapist on the brink of publishing her first book, has a devoted husband and young son who attends an elite private school in New York City. Weeks before her book is published, a chasm opens in her life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself.
