Bad news, genre fans and convention goers.  HBO announced Thursday that its biggest hits, Game of Thrones and Westworld will not have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con this summer. In fact, as Deadline reported, HBO won’t be there at all!

Though HBO promised a return to SDCC “in the future”, they had this to say in their statement, “Due to production schedules and air dates for Game of Thrones and Westworld, these series will not be presented at San Diego Comic-Con this summer,”. Bummer. That means no teasers for GoT‘s final season, or the prequel, or Westworld season three? Gah!

On the bright side, for those that are die-hard convention attendees that have seen the crowds in San Diego reach critical mass over the last several years, maybe you’ll get a little elbow room this year. George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers will be represented by Syfy, who made the series. And fans of all things genre will still get their fixes in other ways. But Hall H is going to feel a little less electric in 2018.
