Our Flag Means Death is based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate. Sounds hilarious!
The Our Flag Means Death announcement was made in a press release from HBO Max. Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, commented on the order: “A series concept like this jumps off the page and you can instantly envision every moment. David and Taika’s unique take on Bonnet’s rollicking misadventures on the high seas, are sure to thrill and delight audiences everywhere.”
Waititi is also up for a couple of Emmy’s as executive producer on Best Comedy Series nominee What We Do in the Shadows. And for best character voiceover performance for The Mandalorian, where he voiced IG-11. All of this, in addition to the many other projects Waititi has in the works, makes me wonder how he does it all.
According to THR, details about the series are scarce. There is no episode count. Our Flag Means Death will start filming after Waititi completes Thor: Love and Thunder. Keep an eye on Geek Girl Authority for all the latest news about this project.
