Harry Potter fans might have magical news on the horizon. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety have shared that a new live-action TV series is in very early development at HBO Max. Their sources have shared that executives at HBO Max have had quite a few meetings with potential writers exploring different ideas on how to bring the wizarding world to the small screen.

Of course, nothing else is known at this time. No names have been shared on who might be attached to the project. Both HBO Max and Warner Bros shared in a statement to THR and Variety that, “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.” Now they may be saying this because it might be a bit too early to share anything else. It will be interesting to see what news comes out over the next few days/weeks.

It makes sense for Warner Bros to want to create more content around one of their most popular IPs. The eight original Harry Potter films have brought in more than $7 billion worldwide. It is possible we could be seeing a reboot of the original story or even something brand new within J.K. Rowling‘s universe. It could even cover the same time period from a different angle. Who says Harry needs to be the main character?
