Today, Marvel and Disney announced that Harrison Ford would join the MCU. He will appear in 2024’s Captain America: New World Order alongside Anthony Mackie and portray Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Harrison will replace the late William Hurt, who has filled the role across many MCU films.

Captain America: New World Order picks up following the events of The Falcon and the White Soldier. Mackie is reprising his new role as Captain America. He will be joined by Harrison, Danny Ramirez as Joaquín Torres/Falcon, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley. Shira Haas has also been linked to the project in the role of Sabra. There is also a big possibility that Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as Winter Soldier.

Marvel and Disney have been hush-hush about the finer details of Captain America: New World Order, per usual. And with a release date set for mid-2024, we can only imagine that we won’t be getting any real details until later next year. But, the question of who would be taking over the role of Ross has been heavy on our minds. There was also the possibility that they would choose not to recast the role at all. Just as they did with Chadwick Boseman‘s Black Panther.

Hurt has filled the role since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and has appeared in five Marvel films. While Ross is a side character within the franchise, Hurt’s shoes are hard to fill. And the choice to have Harrison fill them is a good one. The legendary actor has more than enough experience. Plus, he knows what it is like to be a part of major franchises. Just look at Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

According to a Variety report, it has not been confirmed if Harrison will appear in the upcoming Thunderbolts film as Ross. But we can only imagine that if Marvel has Harrison fill the role for one film, he will continue to do so in others too. Now that Harrison’s addition is out, hopefully, we will get more concrete answers on his involvement in other films and television shows.

Captain America: New World Order will hit theaters on May 3, 2024. What are your thoughts about Ford’s casting? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
