Happy #NationalVideoGamesDay!
Video games saved my life. Ok, I’m being VERY dramatic but in no particular order, here are the games I’m fairly positive, I’ve played the most.
Goldeneye N64 – Pictured above, I don’t know how many hours were lost in this game while I was in drama school, but it was a lot! My friends and I would get together on a daily basis, after rehearsals and margaritas and play into the early morning hours. We should have been studying lines, or practicing the Alexander Technique (because I use that all of the time now, no I don’t) but instead will filled our days with golden gun cheats, tournaments and a bit of nausea after too much of a good time. I still own and play the game, quite often.
Impossible Mission: In 1984, Impossible Mission was released for the Commodore 64 home computer. In 1986 I came down with the chicken pox and had to bow out of my church Christmas pageant. Devastated that the congregation would be denied my talents as a dancer, I was sequestered to the downstairs guest bedroom, where it was dark and lonely. I then discovered that I LOVE dark and lonely because it meant I got to watch movies my father had rented from blockbuster, for me, and I got to play Impossible Mission for an entire week, not to be bothered by the riffraff (my family). The game has been revamped a few times, but I won’t go near them because I only want to remember the terrible graphics and the jarring sound affects. That’s true love.
Rogue Squadron N64 – What can I say….A Star Wars game where I got to participate in taking down AT-AT’s (which was also very hard for me, if I remember correctly) it was a dream. Again, hours wasted and plenty of sleep lost, but many memories that bring me joy!
I know what you’re thinking, Dude why are so stuck in the 80’s and 90’s?! Listen, this is what I love. I play contemporary games, but these are the ones I still hold close to my heart and also stop judging me!
Seriously though, what are and have been, your favorite games over the years?!
