In February, Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted that Hamilton was coming to the big screen saying, “Disney presents Hamilton. With The Original Broadway Cast. Filmed onstage at The Richard Rodgers Theatre. In A Theater Near You. October 15, 2021. #Hamilfilm“ There was much excitement around the announcement of the film.
Here we are in May 2020 and life has changed drastically with the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, Disney has made a surprising but very welcome move. Hamilton is coming 15 months early to Disney Plus. Once again, the news was announced with a tweet. The message read, “Shout it to the rooftops! The original Broadway production of @HamiltonMusical, filmed LIVE onstage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, is now coming exclusively to @DisneyPlus this July 3rd. #Hamilfilm” July 3rd folks!
