A Reckoning Is Coming

So, I’m not sure about the rest of y’all, but when it comes to inspiring loyalty and surviving impossible odds, I would never bet against Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber).

The lesson that needs learning by Ackerson (Joseph Morgan), Parangosky (Shabana Azmi), and the rest of the UNSC in HALO Season 2 Episode 6, “Onyx,” is that if you plan to betray him and make him a martyr to your cause, you’d better make damn sure he actually dies.

John stands clinging to a chain with his left hand. He is shirtless with only his dogtags around his neck, his torso a mass of scars and stitches.

The Question of Kai

Kai (Kate Kennedy) is the last remaining member of Silver Team, still working with FLEETCOM. Her allegiances will be tested when her fallen leader rises to life, seeking vengeance for Vannak (Bentley Kalu) and Reach.

Based on her appearance at the end of HALO episode five, she seems to have assumed the mantle of team leader on Onyx, humanity’s new headquarters.

Kai is a soldier, through and through, pellet or no pellet. The crucial question is, when it comes down to it, whose orders will she follow, her boss’s or her commander’s?

SPARTAN-III

Although the forces Kai commands would appear to be Marines, as evidenced by Perez’s (Cristina Rodlo) presence, HALO canon tells us that Onyx is where Ackerson’s promise to continue Halsey’s (Natascha McElhone) work takes root.

Now that the SPARTAN creator has also inexplicably escaped the Fall of Reach and snuck back in under the UNSC’s defenses — proving Ackerson’s own estimation of her apex survivor qualities from HALO Season 2 Episode 1 — what will she find? What is her next move?

And why was Kessler (Tylan Bailey) brought here? Is he, the child of a SPARTAN-II candidate, going to be used as a part of the next generation of super soldiers?

All Roads Lead to the Keystones

As the trailer below reveals, coming to Onyx brings John back in contact with one of the Keystones. This is a major step towards reuniting him with Makee (Charlie Murphy). And Cortana (Jen Taylor, Christina Bennington). What will that look like?

HALO streams on Thursdays exclusively on Paramount+.
