Master Chief John-117 holds a weapon while wearing his armor and standing in the fog on a distant planet in Halo Season 2.

Think you know where HALO Season 2 is going with its finale? I guarantee that you do not.

To be fair, the HALO gamers among us (see what I did there?) might suspect how the battle for the Halo is going to go, but it’s still a real spectacle seeing it actualized on screen.

Needless to say, everything is about to get a whole lot more complicated for Master Chief (Pablo Scheiber), Halsey (Natascha McElhone), Makee (Charlie Murphy), the entire UNSC and the Covenant, too.

John holds Ackerson high in the air up against a wall by his neck with his right hand. Ackerson has his left hand on John's hand and braces his right hand on John's arm. Both are dressed entirely in black.

Now that John has his Spartan suit and has settled things with Kai, it’s time for Master Chief to get down to business. But business looks very different now that he’s done taking orders from the likes of Ackerson (Joseph Morgan), Halsey and Parangosky (Shabana Azmi). He recognizes the need to prevent the Covenant from taking control of the Halo through Makee but is also invested in saving the lives of the people the UNSC has deemed expendable.

Can he do both? Will Parangosky and ONI let him? Can they stop him? The trailer below reveals that he definitely goes off-script. What motivates that decision? Is it what Perez (Cristina Rodlo) said to him on HALO Season 2 Episode 7, “Thermopylae,” or Season 2 Episode 4, “Reach,” or perhaps Perez herself?

Perez and John face each other in an armory space. Neither wears a helmet although John is carrying his in his left hand. He wears his Spartan armor. Perez is dressed in silver-white Spartan-III armor.

Meanwhile, what exactly did Halsey, Kwan (Yerin Ha) and Miranda (Olive Gray) learn at the archeological site? What did Halsey and Miranda bring back? What does it mean for the Halo and Halsey’s obsession with the species that built it? Will Miranda and her last remaining parent find a way forward together?

Will Soren (Bokeem Woodbine) rescue Laera (Fiona O’Shaughnessy) and Kessler (Tylan Bailey) before Onyx becomes a target?

Are We Ready for This?

Finales are events. They are meant to bring the conflicts to a head, reveal resolutions and seed future developments with insidious and tantalizing tendrils of potential.

Ackerson stands in profile, facing the left of the shot, his face lit up by an unseen screen. His left hand reaches for something on the screen's surface. His is dressed in black.

So, will all the sacrifices be worth it? Can humanity prevail? Will the Halo prove the ultimate solution to a galaxy torn apart by war?

Which will emerge victorious—Makee’s belief in prophecy or John’s faith in self-determination? Check out the trailer and strap in for a monster of a finale.
