From Mad Sweeney to Master Chief.  The Hollywood Reporter states Pablo Schreiber will play Master Chief in the upcoming Halo series for Showtime.  He is joined by Australian newcomer Yerin Ha.

The live-action series based on the popular X-Box game will take place in the same universe as the game, focusing on the conflict between humans and the alien Covenant.  Master Chief is the well-known Spartan commando from the games.  He doesn’t say much and rarely takes off his helmet. So it will be interesting to see Schreiber in that role.  He usually plays characters with a lot to say. Schreiber currently stars in Starz’s American Gods as a loud-mouth leprechaun.

Ha will play Quan Ah, “a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both.” Quan Ah is a new character in the Halo universe, created specifically for the Showtime series.

Kyle Killen and Steven Kane will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Killen will also write for the series.  Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television in partnership with 343 Industries, Toby Leslie, Otto Bathurst, for One Big Picture, Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven, and Karen Richards will also executive produce. Showtime in partnership with 343 Industries will produce along with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.

Halo is currently in pre-production. Filming will start in Budapest, Hungary this fall.
