Can you hear the theme song? Halloween is coming back! One of my favorite horror franchises, yes even the crappy ones, I’ll watch that Michelle Williams/LL Cool J/Boring Josh Hartnett version any day. But this time we have the master, the creator, back as executive producer. John Carpenter will be involved in this renewed adaptation of the horror movie he made 38 years ago, along with Blumhouse, Miramax, and Trancas International Films.
This is a big deal and means we’ll have the original idea of Michael Myers as this terrifying monster, rather then the ‘Oh, there’s something human about him. He had a terrible childhood….’ crap that had started to creep into the films. No! He’s freakin scary and there’s no justification! Here’s what the Godfather, John Carpenter, had to say:
HALLOWEEN needs to return to its traditions,” Carpenter said. “I feel like the movies have gotten away from that… Michael is not just a human being; he’s a force of nature, like the wind. That’s what makes him so scary.
The movie is in very early preproduction and therefore some things are still in negotiations, like the fact that Carpenter may also score the movie like he did with the original.
EEEK!!!!
Blumhouse promises that Halloween will stick to a modest budget, like the original, and keep the focus on a good, scary story.
I’m totally psyched and can’t wait to see who will be cast, who will direct and who is writing this mamojama!
Here’s a little John Carpenter live, just a few days ago at The Bootleg Theater, here in Los Angeles:
Damn, I wish I could have been there!
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more!
