Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming in May 2023

Could this next adventure spell the end of the Guardians? On Thursday, Marvel unleashed the official teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the highly anticipated final chapter of James Gunn‘s successful trilogy.

Here’s a synopsis for the flick per Marvel.com

“In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team around him to defend the universe and protect one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”

We last saw our heroes in the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, now on Disney+. The Guardians band together to cheer up a down in the dumps Peter, who used to love Christmas. Mantis and Drax venture to LA to kidnap Kevin Bacon in a bid to infuse their leader with the Christmas spirit. Mantis also drops the bombshell of her parentage on Peter.

In the teaser, we glimpse Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Peacemaker‘s Chukwudi Iwuji as The High Evolutionary. We also see a baby Rocket looking frightened, with an older Rocket claiming he’s done running. It appears we’re finally getting Rocket’s tragic backstory. As if the premise of Vol. 3 isn’t enough to make me openly weep.

I’m ready to reunite with these dorks (again) to watch them save the galaxy (again). Gunn has crafted such beautifully nuanced characters and emotionally-gripping narratives. Bring on the Marvel-fueled zaniness, corny jokes and the undoubtedly toe-tapping soundtrack.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis, with Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. Supporting players include Sean Gunn as Kraglin/On-Set Rocket, Iwuji, Poulter and Maria Bakalova, providing the voice of Cosmo the Spacedog. Gunn directed from his script.
