Gremlins is getting animated. Variety reported Monday that WarnerMedia is developing an animated Gremlins series for its upcoming streaming service. It’s part of the story that we’ve previously only been able to speculate on.

The planned animated series would be a prequel, focused on Mr. Wing (played in the original movie by Keye Luke). It would follow Mr. Wing and Gizmo on all of their adventures, years before Billy would come into the picture. Man and Mogwi, traveling the world. We are in. Tze Chun (Gotham, Once Upon a Time) is attached to write.

WarnerMedia hasn’t yet named their streaming service. They also don’t expect original content to start streaming until 2020. So, there will likely be no Gizmo until then. They’ve also made it clear that other Warner properties like Friends will eventually be pulled from Netflix and other services and made exclusive to their own platform.

There is no further production or casting information on the Gremlins animated adventure. But, we’re here for it and can’t wait to see how it develops! Stay tuned for more as it develops!
