This recap is full of such villainous spoilers, Jerome would laugh himself silly.
Well, they have been teasing and taunting Joker’s origin since season one and we are finally getting it. This episode, directed by Ben McKenzie himself, promises a twisted and bloody path to get there.
After, Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), Jervis Tetch (Benedict Samuel) and Scarecrow (David W. Thompson) break out of Arkahm. Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) arrive on the scene. Gordon is fresh from the hospital and full of guilt for his involvement with Sophia. Bullock tells him to let it go, the GCPD and the city need him.

When Gordon gets a call from Tetch, he and Bullock go to meet him, knowing that it’s a trap. They arrive and are held by hypnotized Gothamites while Tetch squishes an innocent couple under a wrecking ball. He runs off, leaving them a rhyme to try and figure out his next move.
Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selina (Camren Bicondova) arrive at the GCPD. Selina breaks into Gordon’s office while Bruce stands watch. We’re starting to see the Batman/Bruce Wayne duality, as he throws a spoiled millionaire fit as a distraction. Later, he explains to Selina that he’s responsible for Jerome because he didn’t kill him when he had the chance. It’s up to him to find Jerome and get him back to Arkham. Selina tries to talk some sense into him. It doesn’t work, and she storms off.
Barbara (Erin Richards) is still having headaches and a glowing hand. When she explains to Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) that the headaches are from fighting visions of Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig), she convinces her to stop fighting them. Barbara sees herself being brought back to life. Ra’s tells her that she will be the Demon’s Head and lead the League of Shadows.
Thanks to the beacon of her glowing hand, the League of Shadows arrives. They inform her that they won’t follow a woman. Tapping into her inner Ra’s al Ghul, Barbara proves herself worthy of the League’s women. They kill the men and vow loyalty to her.

Gordon and Bullock follow Tetch’s clues and find hundreds of people on rooftops, ready to jump at his signal. They figure out that Tetch is operating from a radio station. Bulllock does the heroic thing and locks himself in a car, to figure out which station Tetch is at. He gets hypnotized as a result and Gordon must find to Tetch before Harvey can jump.
We finally get to Jerome, who has gone to his uncle’s diner. It’s not a happy reunion and the uncle calls in the strongman from the circus to kill Jerome. Bruce arrives and starts fighting the strongman. Jerome gets the name of a school from his uncle, then kills him. Bruce is still grappling with the strongman, while Jerome is trying to decide which one of them he wants to kill. Selina shows up and knocks the gun out of Jerome’s hand. Bruce stops her from shooting Jerome, who takes off while they’re arguing.
Gordon arrives at the radio station just in time to knock Tetch out and save everyone on the rooftop. Later, when he and Bullock are recovering over a whiskey, Gordon apologizes for being so judgmental of Harvey this whole time. He explains that Gordon may be corrupted, but it’s no where near the level of corruption that Harvey has hit. Meanwhile, Bruce calls Gordon telling him that he knows where Jerome is heading and is going after him.
Jerome and Scarecrow break Tetch out of the van as he’s being taken back to Arkahm. We find out that Tetch was keeping the GCPD busy, so Jerome and Scarecrow could do what they needed to do. They drive off, ready for the next phase of Jerome’s plan.
