Hear that? That’s a roar of excited fans after hearing the new Godzilla news from Legendary. In a statement, the company revealed the full cast, a synopsis for the film and the news that filming has officially begun. The synopsis included some fantastic news for fans of the original Japanese films.
Those who loved the 2014 film are in for a treat as the King of Monsters is coming back for a sequel to face his own monsters. Only later will he face off against the Great Ape, King Kong, himself. Fans itching to see that clash will be sated, however, as Godzilla will be facing 3 of his classic foes. The synopsis revealed Godzilla has a lot on his hands.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Mothra! Rodan! King Ghidorah!?! Don’t touch me! Such exciting news! If the film is done right that is. And boy do I love me some King Ghidorah so it better be done right!
Helming the picture is Michael Dougherty who’s biggest credit includes directing and writing the horror/comedy film Krampus. The script is co-written by Dougherty and writing partner Zach Shields. And the cast has no shortage of names to get people excited. Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins return to reprise their roles from the original film. The cast adds Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds and my personal favorite, Zhang Ziyi.
Filming started as of yesterday so the wait for 2019 begins. It’s currently unknown if the original name, Godzilla: King of Monsters, is still the production name. But we know he’s the King regardless.
