Godfall, due out November 12, seems like it may herald in the next generation of computer gaming. The looter-slasher melee game, from Counterplay Games and Gearbox Publishing, released its spec requirements today and they are a doozy. Not only will players need beefier computers in order to run Godfall, but they will also need a heart for intense gameplay. You play as the last Valarian knight, destined to take down other deities, whilst decked out in Valorplates which determine your character class. These character classes, some of which require unlocks, each contain a special Archon ability or an ability that will defeat your foes with a powerful and aesthetically beautiful move or set of moves.

Here are the system requirements:

Minimum:
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: AMD RYZEN 5 1600/Intel Core I5-6600
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 580, 8 GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 6 GB
Recommended:
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: AMD RYZEN 5 3600/Intel Core I7-8700
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, 8 GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 TI, 11 GB

Godfall went gold on September 17, making it one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. However, the specs required for this game are considerably higher-than-average making it something of a disappointment for players with lower-than-average machines. Part of a game’s playability and earning potential depends upon its ability to run on lower-end computers, which may or may not dissuade potential players from purchasing the game at all. If the $399 and $499 price tag of the PS5 does not deter players, then perhaps extremely high specs on the PC alternative might. Godfall’s developers seem confident that not only is the game worth the $59.99 on the Epic Games store, but that it is also worth an upgrade.

Godfall may act as the new pinnacle of PC gaming requirements if the turnout to buy is just as impressive as the game currently appears. Even Cyberpunk 2077 cannot compare with the requirements that Godfall demands, given their minimum requirements which include Windows 7/Windows 10, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 3GB or AMD Radeon RX 470, with only 8 GB RAM needed. Cyberpunk 2077, which also went gold pre-launch, was recently delayed again until December, but may yet prove to be a fierce contender amidst Godfall’s launch.

Hopefully, Godfall will live up to the hype as the game is released on November 12. If the hype is worth the energy it expends, these requirements may become a new norm in computer gaming as well as a potential catalyst for the mass production of what we now consider higher-end machines.
