You’re invited to the murder mystery of the century. Netflix unveiled the official trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2019 flick Knives Out. Rian Johnson returns to helm the film from his script.
Here’s a synopsis for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery per Netflix Media Center:
“Benoit Blanc returns to peel back the layers in a new Rian Johnson whodunit. This fresh adventure finds the intrepid detective at a lavish private estate on a Greek island, but how and why he comes to be there is only the first of many puzzles. Blanc soon meets a distinctly disparate group of friends gathering at the invitation of billionaire Miles Bron for their yearly reunion.
Among those on the guest list are Miles’ former business partner Andi Brand, current Connecticut governor Claire Debella, cutting-edge scientist Lionel Toussaint, fashion designer and former model Birdie Jay and her conscientious assistant Peg, and influencer Duke Cody and his sidekick girlfriend Whiskey. As in all the best murder mysteries, each character harbors their own secrets, lies and motivations. When someone turns up dead, everyone is a suspect.”

The trailer gives us glimpses of the first movie’s trademark humor and Daniel Craig‘s effervescent charm as the famed detective Benoit Blanc. One of my favorite moments from said trailer is when Blanc vents about his hatred of the game Clue.
I also love that Miles Bron serves as a red herring at the beginning of the trailer — you believe the gang might be solving his murder, but he appears to be very much alive after the bullet pierces the glass. It leaves an intriguing mystery for the audience to solve before watching the film. Who was murdered, and who murdered them? I’m excited to learn the answers to those questions and to reunite with the delightfully whimsical Benoit Blanc in this new setting.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery stars Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista. The film will get a one-week theatrical sneak preview on November 23, with a Netflix debut on December 23.
