GKIDS Debuts English-Language Trailer for THE BOY AND THE HERON

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, GKIDS debuted the English-language trailer for The Boy and the Heron. The hand-drawn animated movie tells an original story written and directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki. Considering this is Miyazaki’s first feature in a decade,  anticipation for the movie is taking off as the release date approaches.

A trailer for the movie was previously released. However, this is the first to show off the movie’s impressively star-studded English-language voiceover cast. If some of the voices in the trailer sound familiar, that’s no surprise.

The movie’s cast includes Christian BaleRobert PattinsonMark Hamill, Florence PughDave BautistaKaren FukuharaGemma ChanWillem Dafoe, Tony Revolori, Luca Padovan, Mamoudou Athie and Dan Stevens. According to the press release, the production of the English-language dub was in accordance with the SAG-AFTRA Foreign Dubbing Agreement.

The introduction for The Boy and the Heron, posted on the movie’s official website, reads: “A young boy named Mahito yearning for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning.” The website continues that the movie is a “semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation,
 in tribute to friendship.”

Special preview screenings of The Boy and the Heron will begin in Los Angeles and New York City on November 22, 2023. The movie will subsequently expand to theaters across the United States and in Canada on December 8, 2023.
