Questions of feminism in classic Hollywood cinema are a tricky, tricky beast. In fact, it’s easy to lean on how problematic some of these films are. In my new video series, Are You a Bad Girl, I’m examining these fascinating questions. How do movies like Gilda, as well as other works from the Golden Age of Hollywood hold up when examined through not only a historical lens, but through a female gaze?

In today’s (Introductory!) installment I dive into the 1946 film noir Gilda, the movie’s stars Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford, the femme fatale as a character archetype as well as how the film fits into the complicated post World War II home front in the United States.

Check out my video here! If you like what you’re seeing, definitely rate, review and subscribe to Female Gaze Productions on YouTube. Stay tuned for lots more content, coming soon!
