Here at the Geek Girl Cantina, we’ll be wrapping up the week in Star Wars news. This week was filled with fun news and trailers, especially as we get closer and closer to Rogue One‘s release. So grab a blue milk, keep your droids out and let’s look at Star Wars goodies!

Rogue One International Trailers
One of the bigger pieces from the week was the (Japanese) international trailer of Rogue One. We got more of a look into the story, moreso then the American trailers. In addition we got to see some big plot points confirmed in the trailer and new shots. You can check out our coverage on it here!

In addition to the Japanese international trailer, a Korean trailer was released that not only combined the shots from the second American Rogue One trailer and Japanese trailer, but included even more shots and lines of dialogue. Personally, I think this is the best cut trailer we’ve gotten in terms of action and story balancing. Let us know what you think of the new trailers! Do you like one more then the other?

TV Spots Galore!

In addition to the international trailers, we’ve been (happily) flooded with TV spots. Nothing too much new here but what do you think? Do you think the marketing team has done a good job to make people aware of when this movie takes place? Let us know!

The Star Wars Show
Star Wars on YouTube
has a weekly show that hosts interviews, stories and announcements for everything Star Wars. If you’re not watching this every week, you’re crazy. This week Andi Gutierrez hosted an interview with Alan Tudyk, they highlighted the Star Wars wax figures at Madam Tussauds in London and announced Rogue One: Recon, a 360 experience. It will be released on November 14th on Facebook and November 15th on YouTube. Be sure to watch their coverage of the following plus a few more tidbits, including a costume exhibit, here.

Rogue One Stickerbook
Now before you raise your eyebrows at me, hear me out. StarWars.com released an article covering a look into their upcoming stickerbook released by DK Publishing. They were able to host an interview with the editor about the book and show exclusive pages from it. It’s a sticker encylopedia! Such a strange little thing but unfortunately it won’t be available until December 16th. The exclusive pages do give us official names for some of the new characters though! In addition to Bistan, Pao will also be helping the Rebels cause. And we have two new stormtrooper ranks in addition to the Death Troopers. We have Tank Troopers and Shore Troopers, both of which we’ve seen in the trailers. What do you think about the stickerbook? Is it silly or are you looking forward to putting stickers everywhere? Let us know!

Episode 9 will be shot on 65mm film
Kodak announced and The Playlist reported that the untitled Episode 9 will be filmed on 65mm. Episode 8 has been filmed on 35mm so it’s interesting to hear. Taking total liberties here, but I suspect that Episode 8 will be a grittier Star Wars film where Episode 9 will be an epic space opera. What do you think of the news?

“Younger Chewbacca”

Chewie get us out of here!
Chewie get us out of here!

Alden Ehrenreich has been out promoting his new film, Rules Don’t Apply, so of course he was asked about the Han Solo film. Ehrenreich, who plays Solo in the film, expressed his excitement in being able to work with Donald Glover. He spoke with ET and while he wasn’t able to indulge if he screen tested with Glover, he was able to give his thoughts on the casting.
“I’m really excited to work with him. I think he’s gonna be great in the role. I think he’s awesome, he’s such an interesting guy and a wonderful actor. I think he’s just gonna do something with that role that I think is gonna be really exciting for everybody.”

In addition to speaking with ET, he also chatted with Variety, confirming that Chewbacca will be in the film. When asked about Chewbacca being younger in the film, Ehrenreich was able to joke.

“He’s as much younger as I am in the film. So, I think he’s like 190 — or something — years old. I don’t think there’s a huge growth spurt for him from 190 to 210, so he’s probably about the same height.”

What do you think of Ehrenreich’s comments? Are you looking forward to seeing him and Chewbacca? Let us know!

Eddie Redmayne as Kylo Ren??
So Eddie Redmayne had auditioned for Star Wars and people assumed it was General Hux. Turns out, Redmayne thinks he might’ve auditioned for Kylo Ren! Speaking to Uproxx, Redmayne discussed his audition and the hilarious process. When asked if he auditioned for General Hux, he replied with the following.

“No. So, I was going for, I think, for Adam Driver. They gave me like a Star Trek scene – or like something from Pride and Prejudice. It was one of those films. With films that top secret, they don’t give you the actual lines. So they give you a scene from Pride and Prejudice, but then they tell you you’re auditioning for the baddie. If you’re me, you then put some ridiculous voice on. That was really a hilarious moment. Because it was Nina Gold, who I have to thank a lot because she’s cast me in several films. And she was just sitting there and I was trying again and again with different versions of my kind of “koohh paaaah” [Darth Vader breathing sound] voice. And after like ten shots she’s like, “You got anything else?” I was like, “No.””

What do you think of Redmayne possibly being Kylo Ren? Is he more perfectly cast as Newt Scamander in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? (The answer is yes)

Ewan McGregor Almost Passed on Obi-wan Kenobi
Now, I personally cannot imagine the prequels without Ewan McGregor. He was my favorite part of the entire prequel trilogy and is a shining beacon in his performance. I even forgive the mullet from Episode 2 because he’s just that great. So the news of him almost passing the role, while not shocking, is something that gives perspective. He spoke to Telegraph magazine reported by FemaleFirst saying that he saw himself  differently at the time.

“Star Wars is Star Wars, it’s something I grew up with as a kid. At first, I was very reluctant to do it, because I saw myself as this urban, grungy actor doing films about heroin and stuff, and that’s who I felt like I really was. But the nearer I got to it, the more I wanted to do it: and it wasn’t for money reasons, because it was back in the day I got paid nicely for it, but it wasn’t ridiculous by any means. It was to do with being in it and it didn’t feel like Hollywood. George Lucas hated Hollywood he was in San Francisco following the beat of his own drum.”
What do you think about his comments? Do you think the prequels would have been radically different without him? Let us know!

Oh mullet...
Oh mullet…

And finally…

Catalyst is a Must-Read Before Seeing Rogue One
StarWars.com has listed out 6 reasons why you need to read Catalyst before Rogue One comes out. Personally, I have yet to read any Star Wars tie in books except for Before The Force Awakens. This list however makes reading it very, very tempting. The book delves into the relationship between Jyn’s father, Galen, and Director Krennic. You also learn how Jyn and Saw Gerrera know each other, Jyn’s young childhood and Tarkin’s in it! Catalyst hits shelves on November 15th, one month before the release of Rogue One.

What do you think? Will you be buying it?

And those were the news stories from this week. What did you think of them? Did we miss anything? Let us know and be sure to come by next week for more!
