Stardate 95161.95 through 95178.37
July 24, 2017 – July 30, 2017
Welcome to the fourth edition of GGA Ready Room! We’re still basking in SDCC news and about to enjoy Star Trek: Las Vegas, but let’s take a look at what Star Trek news we missed last week. As a reminder: the standard date for the post will be shown in the title but the week being recapped (July 24 through July 29 in this case) will be shown in the main header in Stardate format as calculated by ST:Online – this calculator will be used since there is not a standard format across all the television shows and feature films and it is easily accessible.

In the News: What did we miss?
Was there any juicy tidbits that GGA did not feature this week? Find it here!
- In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, it was revealed that ST:Discovery will take advantage of the freedom offered by CBS All Access, the streaming service home of the new show. The show will push the boundaries of profanity and nudity like never before in a Star Trek series – BUT it will also keep true to the Star Trek legacy: it will still be family friendly. The goal? Not to push “much” past PG-13. What does this mean? We will have to wait and watch to find out.
- The entire Star Trek: Las Vegas schedule and panel list has been released. Look for it in an upcoming GGA post.
- An openly gay character in ST:Discovery? Yes! During the SDCC Star Trek panel, Anthony Rapp (Lieutenant Stamets, ST:Discovery) revealed that he will play the first openly gay character in the franchise and that he will be a prominently positive role: a scientist! In addition, Wilson Cruz (13 Reasons Why, He’s Just Not That Into You) will play his partner, Dr. Hugh Culber – another STEM career!
- Nana Visitor (Major Kira Nerys, ST:Deep Space Nine) is getting ready for Star Trek Las Vegas – the former Bajoran liaison officer will be on a panel with GaaaysInSpaace discussing the LGBT+ representation in Star Trek!
- Anthony Rapp enjoyed his time at SDCC by absconding with and partying it up with a little toy Gorn named Jason Gorn. His antics can be found over on Twitter by following #JasonGorn.
- Star Trek Beyond, July 22, 2016
- Recently, GGA Editor Audrey Kearns attended a little thing called San Diego Comic Con where she wore a fantastic geek mash-up shirt: Logic is Coming. For the uninitiated, this is a blend of Game of Thrones and Star Trek and we think Audrey rocked it!
- Entertainment Weekly interviewed the cast of ST:Discovery about working alongside the Klingons. Even in normal, human attire, their facial prosthetics were extremely intimidating! Catch the video below:
- EW also released sneak previews of THREE collector covers celebrating ST:Discovery! The three covers feature Sonequa Martin-Green (Commander Michael Burnham), Jason Isaacs (Captain Lorca), Michelle Yeoh (Captain Georgiou), Shazad Latif (Lieutenant Ash Tyler), Doug Jones (Lieutenant Saru), Mary Wiseman (Cadet Sylvia Tilly), and Anthony Rapp (Lieutenant Stamets). Look for them for sale on shelves (or online) but see the images here!
- May 21, 2016 – December 31, 2017 – Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds in Seattle, Washington. This event is an exhibition showcasing the impact that Star Trek has had on every day life from culture and arts to technology and even sports.
- July 08, 2016 – November 05, 2017 – Star Trek: The Exhibition – Blackpool in Blackpool, United Kingdom. Tour Star Trek’s fifty years of history! Andrew Edwards, stage designer, designed the exhibition with originals from the shows and movies for your viewing pleasure.
- May 02, 2017 – July 30, 2017 – Star Trek: Original Series Set Tour in Ticonderoga, New York. From StarTrek.com: Experience the iconic franchise with this meticulously designed TOS set tour that brings memories to life.
- August 09, 2017 – August 12, 2017 – Star Trek: Las Vegas 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The annual, official Star Trekconvention is expected to be very ST:Discovery news heavy this year with an emphasis on real-life science and technology as it relates to Star Trek.
