What have our favorite Star Trek players been up to?

  • Sir Patrick Stewart, the stoic captain from Star Trek: The Next Generation, hosted the Sci Tech Awards this past weekend. He tweeted out a photo update before stepping out on the stage and cracking a few jokes. Variety has a full write up on the evening, which includes Sir Stewart’s admission that he knows far less about the Star Trek universe than the fans.

  • Star Trek: Discovery‘s inaugural season has ended, but in the lead-up to the season finale, Startrek.com sat down with Mary Wiseman, who plays Cadet Sylvia Tilly. The interview spans more than just ST:Discovery, but not by much; be prepared for spoilers, if you have not yet watched all of Season 1.

Mixed Media

Whether it be fan art, a mash-up music video, music from the series, game related news, or just recently discovered concept art, below you will find all the arts of Star Trek from this week.

  • Comedy Central’s Drunk History took on a favorite actress from Star Trek history! Ashley Nichole Black tackled Nichelle Nichols and her journey with Star Trek, from the meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr. and the first inter-racial kiss on network television, to her partnership with NASA as a recruiter, where she recruited Sally Ride (the first female astronaut), Guion Bluford (the first African-American astronaut), and Dr. Mae Jemison (who has been aboard the International Space Station and was an engineer on the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation). Watch the clip below:

Convention Circuit: News and More

I’m breaking this out of the above segment, What have our favorite Star Trek players been up to?, because there have been so many conventions pop up that I am worried about things getting too crowded.

[UPCOMING]  Destination Star Trek: Germany 2018 (April 27 – 29) & Destination Star Trek: Birmingham 2018 (October 19 – 21)

  • The considerable lineup for both upcoming European conventions, Destination Star Trek: Germany and Destination Star Trek: Birmingham, is just growing! Joining for one or both of the events is Nichelle Nichols (Uhura, ST:TOS), Connor Trinner (Commander Charles “Trip” Tucker III, ST:Enterprise), Robert O’Reilly (Gowron, ST:TNG / ST:DS9), Gary Graham (Ambassador Soval, ST:Enterprise), and Sonita Henry (Doctor, Star Trek (2009)).

Official Federation Sanctioned Events

If you are lucky enough to live near enough, one of the following events coming up this month may be of interest to you. If you do attend, take pictures and let us know how it went!

  • May 21, 2016 – September 30, 2018 – Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds in Seattle, Washington. This event is an exhibition showcasing the impact that Star Trek has had on every day life from culture and arts to technology and even sports.
  • October 28, 2017 – May 28, 2018 – Starfleet Academy Experience in Jersey City, New Jersey. The interactive exhibit resides inside the Liberty Science Center and allows fans to get a feel for the life of a Starfleet Cadet. Attendees begin at orientation, learn what is required to be in science, engineering, medical, and command, and end with graduation. The exhibit includes the real-life science behind the show, including the science developed or inspired by Star Trek.

En Memorium

Red shirts are not the only crew members lost in Star Trek. We pay our respects to the following men and women that served their time with Starfleet, the Federation, or touched some form of the Star Trek universe:

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation guest actor Reg E Cathy passed away after a battle with lung cancer on February 9, 2018, at the age of 59. Cathy portrayed the Klingon Morag in the Season 6 episode, “Aquiel”. In addition to his Star Trek role, Cathy voiced various characters in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic – Rise of the Hutt Cartel, played the senior Dr. Storm in the 2015 Fantastic Four, Freddy Hayes the barbecue master on House of Cards, and many more bit parts.
