The first Reservation Dogs trailer is finally here and it’s already funny. The Indigenous comedy from Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi follows four Native teens in small town Oklahoma. The teens have dreams of going to California, but making money is kinda hard. So what’s a kid to do?
Reservation Dogs stars D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis and Lane Factor. In the trailer we get to see how they navigate life in a small town. The kids steal a truck of chips and sell it. All seems fine until two things happen. Lighthorseman “Big” (Zahn McClarnon) questions the kids about the truck, despite the fact that they drove right past him. He was too busy looking at his phone to notice. And a rival gang, the NDN mafia shoots the group with paintballs. According to Mekko (Funny Bone) and Mose (Lil Mike), NDN Mafia wear blue and red colors, so they aren’t blood or crips. Maybe their blips or croods. Ha!
There are some major cameos in this trailer from Wes Studi, Gary Farmer and Dallas Goldtooth. Bear might be hallucinating when he sees Dallas. But these “elders” are there to help guide the teens to fight for something. It’s easy to be bad; it’s hard to be a warrior with dignity. But the Reservation Dogs have something to fight for. And it looks like it will be and interesting and funny journey to watch.
I’m so excited about this show! Just seeing this trailer has me laughing. Indigenous people are funny people and I can already see we’re going to be in for a good time. Be sure to follow the Reservation Dogs social media accounts on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
