It seems like Taika Waititi has his hands on everything these days. Discussing Film reports Waititi will work with Oklahoma filmmaker Sterlin Harjo to write and produce Reservation Dogs, a limited series for FX.
Reservation Dogs tells the story of four teenagers living in an Indian housing project in rural Oklahoma, spending their days committing petty crime…and fighting it. The series is set to film in Oklahoma beginning in February.
Waititi and Harjo will executive produce the series with Garret Basch producing under the Scott Rudin Productions banner. Both will write the series and Waititi is set to direct the pilot
Waititi is fast becoming a house hold name with the success of his latest film JoJo Rabbit, currently in theaters. He is currently working on several projects including Thor: Love and Thunder and Next Goal Wins.
Harjo is from Holdenville, Oklahoma. His filmography includes features and shorts all based in Oklahoma and concerns Native American issues. Harjo is a product of the Sundance Film Institute and a member of the comedy group the 1491s.
This Indigenerd is very excited for Reservation Dogs. 1. the story is set in Oklahoma, my home state and 2. the series will film in Oklahoma! With two of my favorite Indigenous filmmakers attached to the project, I know it will be good. It’s about time we get a Native centered television series!
Casting for the teen leads will begin soon in Oklahoma. The Indigenerd Wire will be covering this story as it develops.
