The non-profit organization Illuminative released a star-studded public services announcement to bring awareness of the impact of COVID-19 on Indigenous communities. The PSA features actors, activists, artist, politicians, filmmakers, musicians and philanthropists that are well known in Indian Country.  It also features some recognizable non-native allies in a humorous, yet sincere video encouraging people to #StayAwayTogether.

IllumiNative is “an initiative, created and led by Natives, to challenge the negative narrative that surrounds Native communities and ensure accurate and authentic portrayals of Native communities are present in pop culture and media.”  The PSA is a part of the #WarriorUp campaign that also features a town hall and weekly podcast to bring further attention to the impact of the pandemic on native communities.

Most notable is the appearance of Congresswoman Sharice Davids and Congresswoman Deb Haaland.  They are the first Native Americans elected to the House of Representatives and are both great role models for all Indigenous peoples.  Other famous faces include Taika Waititi, Ed Helms, Martin Sensmeier, Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs, and so many more.  There’s even an appearance from Auntie Beatrice!

Oh and there are some NDN jokes in there that you may not get, but that’s okay. The overall message is to protect everyone, yourself, your family, extended family, adopted family and especially your elders by staying away together.  Watch the video below.  For more information about Illuminative, visit their website at IllumiNative.org
