Get ready to take flight with STAR WARS: SQUADRONS

Last week, EA teased their latest Star Wars game, Star Wars: Squadrons, and today we finally got our first trailer! Star Wars: Squadrons harkens to the classic Star Wars flight games like Star Wars: X-Wing vsTie Fighter, and even Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. From the trailer alone, we see that players will participate in intense 5v5 multiplayer dogfights and fleet battles, all set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

As someone who grew up on the Star Wars flight simulator games, I could not be more excited for Star Wars: Squadrons. Just from the cinematic trailer alone, we get an intense and emotional look at what it means to sit in the pilot’s seat for the Rebels and Empire alike. Likewise, this same excitement is shared by Ian Frazier, Creative Director of Motive Studios:

“We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter. Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship.”

In a Galaxy Far Far Away…

Players can look forward to cooperative multiplayer battles that occur across the seen and unseen Star Wars universe. Ultimately, it will be the strength and strategy of your team that determines your success. Star Wars: Squadrons also features a single-player story for pilots to experience. The story will alternate between the perspectives of two different customizable pilots: one serving the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron, and the other fighting for the Galactic Empire’s Titan Squadron. Throughout the story, you’ll meet a diverse cast of new characters and encounter some familiar Star Wars faces.

In addition to thrilling gameplay, Star Wars: Squadrons offers a variety of customization options and cosmetics for players to earn solely through gameplay. Throughout the game, you’ll unlock an assortment of new ship components, interior and exterior customizations, and even options to change your pilot’s appearance! And with emphasis on gameplay-earned mods, we can assume that this latest Star Wars EA title will NOT feature purchasable loot boxes.

Finally, the most impressive aspect of this title is its cross-platform functionality! Whether you’re playing on a PC or PSVR, you’ll be able to fly with your friends across platforms and fight together to save the Galaxy. I cannot wait to squad up and take off with my friends this October! We can expect a closer look at Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay this Thursday, June 18, at 4 PM (PT) during the EA Play Live 2020 presentation on EA.com

Star Wars: Squadrons will be available on October 2, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC through Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, PSVR, and VR for the PC.
