When Disney announced the upcoming Jungle Cruise movie, based on the ride from their theme park, I knew it was going to be more than a few jokes and cruising. The latest trailer breaks down the storyline, introduces the bad guys, and shows off some pretty epic adventure shots. Oh, and it doesn’t forget the humor.

Jungle Cruise stars Emily Blunt as Lily Houghton; a scientist and explorer. She makes her way to the Amazon rainforest in order to find a magical tree that has healing properties. She hires Frank (Dwayne Johnson) to escort her on his boat. What she doesn’t know is that he is a con-man just suckering wealthy tourists out of their money.

Now, of course, no adventure is complete without a set of bad guys. But what about bad guys with snakes coming out of there face? Perfection. We don’t know much about the very generic looking bad guys other than that they are being led by Jesse Plemons. My guess is they are looking for the tree in order to create super soldiers and take over the world. It seems about right.

Jungle Cruise is shaping up to be a pretty epic ride for fans. This isn’t the first film that Disney has built around one of its theme park rides. My only wish is that it follows more in the footsteps of the Pirates of the Caribbean rather than The Haunted Mansion. Only time will tell with that one though.

The official summary from Disney is: Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s JUNGLE CRUISE is an adventure-filled, Amazon-jungle expedition starring Dwayne Johnson as the charismatic riverboat captain and Emily Blunt as a determined explorer on a research mission. Also starring in the film are Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

Jaume Collet-Serra is the director and John Davis, John Fox, Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia and Beau Flynn are the producers, with Doug Merrifield serving as executive producer.

Disney’s Jungle Cruise sails into theaters on July 24, 2020.
